The 17th annual iPhone Photography Awards winners have been announced, with Photographer of the Year Erin Brooks's "Boy Meets Shark" and category winners across Animals and Landscape from over 140 countries.

From a boy meeting a shark in Tampa, Florida, to meditating monks in Cambodia, judges say this year's iPhone Photography Award winners "are a powerful testament to the art of storytelling through photography."

Now in its 17th year, the annual competition started in 2007 when the original iPhone "first began to inspire, excite and engage users worldwide."

Thousands of photos were submitted from more than 140 countries worldwide.

Overall Winners

Photographer of the Year — Grand Prize

Erin Brooks, USA — "Boy Meets Shark," taken in Tampa, Florida, on an iPhone 15 Pro Max.

First Place

Glen Wilbert, USA — "Lifeguard Camp," taken at Huntington Beach, California, on an iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Second Place

Anthony Maureal, USA — "Pupils," taken at Ta Prohm in Siem Reap, Cambodia, on an iPhone 15 Pro.

Third Place

Wenlong Jiang, China — taken in Fujian, China, with an iPhone 14.

Animals

First Place: Colin Huskins, England — "Huntsman, Horse & Hounds," shot on iPhone 7 Plus in Cirencester, England.

Second Place: Huapeng Zhao, China — "Mother and Son," shot on iPhone 15 Pro Max at Serengeti National Park, Tanzania.

Third Place: Rebecca Horrocks, Australia — "George Loves Chippies," shot on iPhone 13 at Aireys Inlet, Victoria, Australia.

Landscape

First Place: Paddy Chao, Taiwan — "Night Sky in Lake Tekapo," shot on iPhone 15 Pro Max at Lake Tekapo, New Zealand.

Second Place: Alessandra Manzotti, Italy — "Half Measures," shot on iPhone 12 Pro Max in Antarctica.

Third Place: Qu Lu, USA — "Snowy Waves," shot on iPhone 13 Pro Max at The Wave in Arizona.
